Dr. Joy Cavalaris is a native of South Florida where she grew up in Miami. She first completed a BA in biology at prestigious Boston University, graduating Magna Cum Laude. She remained in Boston for her medical training and attended the Boston University School of Medicine. Dr. Cavalaris completed her residency training in Obstetrics & Gynecology at
the George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, DC, where she served as administrative chief resident during her final year in training.
Dr. Cavalaris began practicing in West Palm Beach and in 2004. She is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology and is also a fellow in the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She has been active in many professional organizations. Dr. Cavalaris has served on various committees for the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists at the district and national level. Locally, she served as chair of the women’s physician section of the Palm Beach County Medical Society.
Dr. Cavalaris has expertise in advanced laparoscopy and robotic surgery. She has been trained on the da Vinci Surgical System and has used the system to perform minimally invasive hysterectomy and advanced surgical procedures for over a decade. She enjoys the comprehensive nature of her specialty and is able to incorporate office-based gynecological procedures and high-risk obstetrics into her practice.
Part of the practice of medicine is to improve care for your own patients as well as others. To that end, Dr. Cavalaris serves as a sub-investigator for Altus Research, which conducts clinical trials in areas of women’s health. She also chooses to further medical education by serving as a Clinical Affiliate Assistant Professor at the Florida Atlantic University Schmidt College of Medicine.
Dr. Cavalaris feels strongly about patient education and realizes that women who are educated about gynecological and obstetric issues can partner with a physician to improve their health. Nutrition, exercise, stress management, and other basic lifestyle strategies can go a long way in helping patients achieve health. In addition to her interest in high-risk pregnancy, Dr. Cavalaris works with women and couples who are experiencing fertility problems or who want to plan a pregnancy for the best possible outcome. She enjoys caring for and getting to know her patients throughout their reproductive lifespan and after.
