Three Ways to Take Care of Your Breasts

Women are generally busy taking care of everyone else in their family and sometimes don’t take the time to take care of themselves. The best thing you can do for you and your family is to try to be as health conscious as you can. Keeping your breasts healthy is no exception.

Breast health is something you may have heard, but maybe you are wondering how can a person take care of their breasts? Most people ignore this part of their health until they notice something isn’t right. Don’t let that happen. Here are three ways to keep your breasts in their best health.

Get your yearly mammogram.

There cannot be enough emphasis on this. A mammogram is a type of x-ray specific to breast tissue. It can detect abnormalities well before you can feel them yourself. If one of these abnormalities ends up as cancer, a mammogram allows you to find it and treat it early, which greatly helps you succeed in beating it.

There is no question, mammograms save lives. It is important that you keep your yearly mammogram appointment no matter how busy you are. It is also important to talk to your physician to find out when you should start yearly mammograms. Sometimes family history or specific health conditions can make doctors recommend that some women start earlier than other.

Schedule self-breast exams.

A mammogram can detect anything you might need to be concerned about much fast than a self-breast exam, but self-examining is still very important. Younger women who don’t get yearly breast exams definitely benefit from learning the usual state of their bodies through these self-exams.

If you don’t know if a knot is normally there, you are less likely to get anything checked out because you assume it’s always been there. All women should be familiar with their bodies, and the only way to do this is to scheduled self-exams. Try and think of a time each month that is easy for you and mark it on the calendar.

Keep the rest of your body healthy.

If you keep your weight down, and keep your cholesterol and blood pressure in check, this will help keep not only you healthy, but your breasts healthy as well. A healthy diet also helps. Different things in your diet like caffeine affect your breasts and it’s to your benefit to eat right. It seems simple, but leading a healthy lifestyle like not smoking, drinking in moderation, and getting regular exercise are the best things you can do for your body.

Getting your yearly mammogram, scheduling a monthly self-breast exam, and keeping your body healthy are three important measures you can make to ensure you are keeping your breasts healthy.
