How to Keep Your Vagina Healthy and Happy

You work hard to keep your body in shape and your skin looking youthful, but one area you might be neglecting is the health of your vagina. Sometimes women can be shy when it comes to discussing the methods they use to keep their vaginal area clean and healthy, but it’s something that deserves attention. Don’t ignore the health of your vagina any longer and follow these simple steps to make sure you’re healthy and happy in all parts of your body.

Eat nutrient-rich foods

Many women have heard that incorporating cranberry juice, certain dairy products such as yogurt, and other nutrient-rich foods into your diet can help prevent vaginal health issues such as yeast infections. When you’re planning your meals, be sure to include fruits and veggies. If you’re experiencing dryness, speak with your gynecologist about foods that can help increase your natural lubricant such as soy items.

Use protection

When you’re sexually active, it’s important that you use protection. However, be sure that you are using condoms and the kind of protection that prevents STD’s. Birth control and other contraceptives will help with family planning and pregnancy prevention, but they won’t be a safeguard when it comes to preventing diseases.

Don’t ignore the signs

If you feel itching sensations or suffer from irritations and redness, don’t just hold out hoping the symptoms will subside. You should always be mindful of how your vagina feels when it is healthy, so you know when there are irregular signs occurring. This will allow you to be more proactive in caring for your vagina, and you can treat symptoms as soon as they start.

Stop douching

Talk to your gynecologist about the best ways to protect your PH Balance without douching. Douching can actually make your vagina more susceptible to bacteria infections because it disrupts your natural body and PH levels. Plus, while you might think that you smell clean, that doesn’t always mean you are clean because douching can cover up our natural scents.

Properly clean

Ask your gynecologist about the areas that are the most important to wash such as the outside. The inside of the vagina often cares for itself and won’t require as much attention. Most of the time, you won’t have to buy a special or sensitive soap. Because the vagina is very self-sufficient, you won’t have to spend too much energy properly cleaning it, but it will need a little daily attention.

Make your annual checkups

Your annual checkups will provide you with insight into your health. With the information you gain, you can proactively prevent diseases like breast cancer, as well as discuss your vaginal health issues with your gynecologist in a professional and private setting. While we can take active steps each day to improve and maintain ourselves, an annual checkup will only enhance those efforts.
